ADVOCATES' DAY - JULY 26, 2010

SURVIVING THE STORM - CATCHING THE WAVE

Dear Labour Relations Professional:

It is our pleasure to invite you to join us on Monday, July 26, 2010, for the Association of Labor Relations Agencies' (ALRA) 2010 Advocates' Day at the Fairmont Château Laurier in Ottawa.

ALRA is an association of U.S. and Canadian state, provincial and federal labour relations boards, mediation agencies and labour departments. Advocates' Day is part of ALRA's annual conference. It is a unique one-day program which brings together labor officials, labor and management representatives, public and private sector managers and labor relations neutrals from across the United States and Canada to hear national and regional speakers discussing key issues of the day. This year, the sessions will focus on the labour relations consequences resulting from the current economic challenges.

The price for the all-day program, including a buffet breakfast, a plated lunch, and a cocktail reception at the majestic Grand Hall of the National Gallery of Canada, is $275.

A detailed agenda and registration information are attached. You may also register online by following the links on the ALRA website at: https://www.regonline.com/ALRA2010 .

We look forward to seeing you.

March 26, 2010

On Friday, March 26, 2010, Patrick Riley, business agent for the International Longshoremans Association, Local 273 of Saint John, New Brunswick, on behalf of his members, will receive in Buenos Aires, Argentina the " Order of May" , the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a non- Argentinean citizen, by the Argentine government. The medal commemorates the action in 1979, by longshoremen and many others, to block the transfer of heavy water to a nuclear reactor being built at the time in Argentina. This action resulted in the release of several trade unionists imprisoned in Argentina, and the ultimate receipt of hundreds of refugees to Canada from Argentina that at the time was suffering under a brutal military dictatorship. This presentation follows a parallel event held in Saint John on March 13 attended by the Argentine ambassador to Canada. Click here to see the note of congratulations that CALL/ACAMS sent to our compadres in Buenos Aires, to be read out at the event.
