CALL/ACAMS Conference 2015 - Winnipeg, June 11 -14, 2015
MARK YOUR CALENDARS to be in Winnipeg from June 11 to 14, 2015 for the annual CALL/ACAMS Conference. To mark the 30th anniversary of the Charter's equality provisions and the very recent opening of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, this year's conference theme is Human Rights, the Charter and Unions - Past Struggles and New Frontiers.
The 2015 CALL/ACAMS Annual Conference will once again present a comprehensive, critical and timely review of legal issues of significance to all those who represent and provide legal counsel to trade unions. The Conference will feature many of the country's leading labour lawyers and academics, including practitioners who have argued the cases to be discussed. There will be a mixture of plenaries and workshops, with simultaneous interpretation in both French and English for all sessions. Topics will include:
- Constitutional Update - Supreme and Appellate Court Review
- Rights of the Transgender Worker
- Labour Rights are Human Rights - hosted by the International Labour Relations Committee
- Pay Equity Update
- Individual Claimants and Trade Unions - Workers' Compensation, Health and Safety, Human Rights, Employment Standards
- Ten-Minute Labour Lawyer - Case Law and Legislative Review
- Professionalism and Ethics Workshops - Accredited (Pending Approval) for Continuing Legal Education Purposes
- Dispatches from the Ivory Tower - Recent Developments in Academic Labour Law
- Effective Use of Expert Witnesses in Labour and Human Rights Proceedings
- How to Stage an Intervention - in Court or Before a Tribunal
The conference will take place at the historic, independent Fort Garry Hotel, which reputedly has the best hamam spa in Canada. There will of course be lots of exciting social activities, the highlight of which will certainly be a night of dining and dancing at the new Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Registration forms and hotel booking information will be sent out in the New Year.
