In Alberta, Lyle Kanee, formerly of Chivers Kanee Carpenter in Edmonton, has moved to Toronto and is practicing at Sack Goldblatt Mitchell.Alejandra Varela and Patrick Nugent have joined Chivers Carpenter.
Vancouver’s Rita Mahil has joined the Health Sciences Association of B.C., moving from Fiorillo Glavin Gordon. Sara M. Smyth has joined Black, Gropper & Company in Vancouver.
Manitoba arbitrator and labour board vice-chair Joy Cooper has been appointed Master for the Manitoba Court of Queen’s Bench.
Colin Robinson, formerly an arbitration specialist at the Manitoba Government and General Employees Union, has been appointed Vice Chair of the Labour Board. Helen Krahn, formerly of Myers Weinberg, has replaced Colin at the MGEU. Robb Tonn has retired and left his offices at the MGEU. He is now General Counsel at Myers Weinberg. David Lewis, formerly Senior Legal Counsel at the UFCW Local 832, can now be found in Robb’s old office at the MGEU.
The offices of Cherniack Smith in Winnipeg have expanded. Valerie Matthews Lemieux, and Elliot Leven , formerly of Myers Weinberg, have joined that firm.
Garth Smorang of Myers Weinberg is the incoming president of the Law Society of Manitoba.
Beth Symes of Eberts, Symes, Street & Corbett is now a Law Society of Upper Canada Bencher in Ontario.
Ian Anderson, former in-house counsel at UFCW Local 1000A, is now a vice- chair at the Ontario Labour Relations Board. Catherine Gilbert has also joined the OLRB, moving from CAW’s national legal department in Toronto. Anthony Dale, Roman Stoykewych and Barry Wadsworth have joined the CAW legal department.
John R. Evans has merged Evans Law with Cavalluzzo Hayes Shilton McIntyre & Cornish in Toronto. Elizabeth Shilton is retiring from practice in April.
Gary Caroline left Caroline Engel Gottheil and moved to Cavalluzzo in 2004. He has since left Cavalluzzo and is now practicing construction labour law with Caroline Gibson Barnes of Vancouver and Toronto. James Robbins has also joined the ranks at Cavalluzzo coming from Jesin, Watson & McCreary.
Robert Greenfield has moved from Sack Goldblatt Mitchell to Jesin, Watson & McCreary.
Nini Jones has left Caley & Wray and joined Paliare Roland Rosenberg Rothstein.
Allison Hudgins is now an associate with the "Forum on Privatization and the Public Domain".
Jackie Crawford, formerly of the Air Canada Component of CUPE is now with Koskie Minsky. Terri Hilborn has also left Air Canada Component of CUPE moving to Green Chercover in Toronto. Peter Barnacle has joined the staff of CUPE in Saskatchewan.
The firm of Walker Plaxton in Saskatoon has rebranded. It is now Plaxton Gillies, the Plaxton being Drew Plaxton and the Gilles being Rod Gillies.
Former CALL president David Brown of Brown Bell has set up shop with the New Brunswick Union of Public & Private Employees.
