Dear CALL/ACAMS Guest,
Thank you for your interest in joining a coastal kayak adventure with Stan Cook Sea Kayaking. For over 35 years, we‘ve been the trusted choice of travelers to the eastern corner of North America, Newfoundland and Labrador. We have lasted this long because of our enjoyment of and commitment to providing enriching fun filled adventuress that exceed our guests’ expectations.
Kayaking Adventures
Our well-planned and tested itineraries along with the camaraderie of small groups are complemented by our experienced staff. This synergy creates a trip without shortcuts or surprises yet allows off-the-beaten-path discoveries that only locals can provide. We have designed our trips so that most weather doesn’t affect the easy, fun, and enjoyment focus of our tour.
We can provide special clothes and paddling gear to keep our guests warm even if the temperature is not. We also have a large motorized safety boat that can be used if the weather changes and we feel it is in the best interest of our guest to be brought back to the departure beach quicker than usual.
Our heritage shop, from which we offer many of our adventures, is located in the protected fjord harbour of Cape Broyle, right on the East Coast Trail about 45-50 minutes drive south of St. John’s. Cape Broyle is an extremely sheltered inlet with many unique natural attractions that our guest can paddle through, around, in or under.
There are many waterfalls, over a dozen sea caves, several arches and numerous sea stacks. All of this incredible natural scenery is complement by traditional colourful coastal villages. These seaside homes perched on the ocean edge allow our guests to experience our unique maritime style of living.
Whale Watching and Iceberg Viewing
Whale watching and interaction is a large portion of our programs, as the majority of whales migrate through our waters from late May until end of August. Icebergs tend to be more plentiful from mid May to end of June. Besides whales and icebergs the Southern Shore, especially Cape Broyle, is a special place for sea kayaking. On your tour you can paddle inside caves, under waterfalls, through sea arches and interact with much marine life. As we are paddling in and around this area sea bird viewing opportunities are amazing.
Guided Walks
Other daily tours we are offering your group are guided 4 Hour Walks. These outings take place on the world famous East Coast Trail along the Avalon’s southern shore. This region, known locally as the Irish Loop, is dotted with colourful villages and secluded coves. The wildlife and ecosystems of coastal Newfoundland are astounding and our local guides provide guests in-depth knowledge of these areas as well as incredible views of wild coastline. On the four hour walk, our guests have a terrific opportunity to watch puffins, razorbills, kittiwakes and other migratory birds.
